Frequently Asked Questions

What is graded and what is not?

In the standard package, all multiple choice, fill in the blank, matching assignments are graded automatically.
The student written short answers, sentences, and essays are not graded by Discern Academy.
You as the parent are responsible for grading the written assignments.

The premium package comes with Discern Academy manually graded all written assignments and providing personalized feedback.

What is the parent platform?

The parent platform is included only in the premium packages, it is an interactive database that allows you, the parent, to view all of your students completed assignments, grades, writings, progress, time spent on course, times logged in, and other statistics about your student. At the end of a course, you have the ability to download a PDF of your students course where it shows the grade for every assignment, day completed, and average score for the course. You as the parent are responsible for giving the final grade, this number is provided as a convenience.

What is the school community?

This is an area where students can ask questions about a particular assignment or course in our enclosed school setting. Teachers or peers can respond to the question. This furthers engagement and grappling with harder literary concepts.

Why should I choose the standard package over the premium package?

In simple terms, the standard package is the more economical option, but it requires more parent involvement and work. The parent is responsible for grading all written assignments and does not have access to the parent platform nor the additional Biblical or entrepreneurial courses.

What are Flagship courses?

Flagship courses are the first course you take in each grade. They cover every concept that needs to be learned in that grade level. All other books in that grade level reinforce those concepts. Your student always takes the Flagship course first.

Monthly vs Annual

We give the option of paying monthly, which allows you to cancel anytime. Annual packages are for 12 months and provide significant savings.
